I love your artwork but not sure I can afford it right now. Do you OFFER A payment plan?

How is the artwork packaged for shipping?

Artworks are securely packaged to protect from damage during transit. Smaller paintings on wood panels are wrapped in multiple layers of packaging and shipped in a cardboard box. Larger wood panels are shipped in a foam-lined, custom crate.

To provide the best protection, artworks on washi paper are shipped unframed and rolled in a tube. This will also guarantee the most affordable shipping option.

How do I know if the painting will look good on the wall I have in mind?

If you are within reasonable driving distance I am happy to bring the painting to your home and you can see if it is a good fit for the wall space and décor. Otherwise, you can send me a photo of the wall and I can create a digital rendering of the painting in your space to show you how the artwork will look on the wall.

What if I don’t like it in person or the painting is not right for my space?

If the painting is not quite what you expected when you receive it and you are not satisfied with the artwork, please notify the artist within 7 days of the sale to exchange it for a different artwork.

Exchanges of artwork are accepted if the artwork is in its original condition. The total cost of the artwork (excluding shipping and handling fees) will go towards the replacement painting only if the artwork is returned in the same condition that it was sent within 30 days of purchase.

The buyer is responsible for all return shipping and insurance fees, and there are no refunds on return shipping and insurance fees paid for by the buyer who exchanges a painting. Exchanges are issued upon receipt and acceptance of the artwork. Exchanges are not possible for damaged works or artwork that has deteriorated due to incorrect display.

Is the artwork ready to hang? Does it need a frame?

Yes, all my wood panel pieces are ready to hang, most have a wire on the back or, for larger pieces a set of eyelets or a cleat system that enables flush mounting (flush mounting is highly recommended for pieces larger than 48”x36”). My paintings are not framed but the sides are nicely finished so they show beautifully without a frame. If you prefer to have your painting framed I can arrange that for you. Framing prices are quoted upon request. Because framing adds weight and volume during shipping you may consider having your local framer do the work.

No, my pieces on washi (Japanese paper) are not ready to hang, because they are very delicate, they need to be framed before displaying them (when framing please take care to always use archival, acid-free and removable products). They are shipped unframed because it makes shipping more affordable and rolling the piece will provide better protection during transport, there is much less risk of damaging the artwork. I would be happy to recommend what type of frame would be appropriate. We can discuss all those options at the time of purchase.

what if I want the artwork framed?

If you prefer to have it framed I can arrange that for you. Framing prices are quoted upon request. Because framing adds weight and volume during shipping you may consider having your local framer do the work.

In Canada, the Artist Abroad works with two wonderful galleries that provide framing services Viva Vida Art Gallery, in Montréal and Latitude 44 Gallery in Toronto. When you bring an artwork to them for framing they will be more than happy to help you choose the perfect frame that will complement and enhance your investment.

When framing please take care to always use archival, acid-free and removable products.

How do I care for my artwork?

To care for the artwork never display it in strong ultraviolet radiation such as direct sunlight or in a location of high humidity. Avoid touching the image area or rubbing your hand or other materials across the surface of the piece. The artwork is protected by an archival varnish, to clean an artwork on wood panel carefully wipe it with a dry soft cloth to remove dust.

For pieces on Japanese paper avoid touching the paper with your bare hands as the oils on your hands will damage the paper, to clean wipe very lightly with a clean, dry duster. Never use water or cleaning agents on any of the artwork.

The colors don’t match my decor

I am always happy to do work on commission, if you are interested we can create a similar piece featuring the colors you desire.

Can I order a custom painting?

Yes, I am always happy to work with you to create the perfect artwork for your home.

How does a commission work?

When you ask the Artist Abroad to create a unique painting just for you she will schedule a meeting with you, either in person or online, to talk about the details of the design. For commissions there is a 50% non-refundable downpayment, once the downpayment is received and you have decided on the size and subject matter of your painting, the artist will start designing a digital composition.

You will receive digital sketches by email and can request changes to the composition until you are absolutely happy with it. Only once you have approved the final sketch will the artist start working on the physical painting.

From the moment the composition is approved it takes about 6 months for the artist to finish the painting. The artist will send several updates from the studio while the painting is in process so you can follow along every step of the way. Once the piece is finished you will receive an image and be required to pay the remaining balance plus the shipping, after payment is received the painting is shipped to you. Payment plans are also available (see above).

What if I don’t like the commissioned piece once I see it in person?

We do not take returns on commissions but the Artist Abroad works with digital sketches that give a very good approximation of the finished painting, she works with you to guarantee the composition is exactly what you want it to be and won’t start working on the physical painting until the digital sketch is approved so we both know you’ll be happy with the finished painting.

Do you sell prints of your work?

Yes, you can buy standard-sized giclee prints in my web store. All prints are limited edition, they are numbered and signed by the artist. To guarantee the most affordable shipping option all prints are sold unframed.
